karen-rayLeaving the hotel early early to start on the ride.  Got my final prep info from Aishea about what to expect.

Total calories burned= 3,550 calories

Total Calories to consume while riding (20% of calories burned)= 710 calories

Ride day breakfast:

350-400 calories from moderate to low glycemic foods

if queasy/nervous–who, me?–use liquid or semi-solid foods

Race nutrition:

Two water bottles, 5 scoops of cytomax, 8 shot blocks

Pre-ride snack: 1-1 1/2 hours before start: 1/2 bottle sports drink (diluted)

Bike Nutrition Breakdown:

1st hour: bottle of water with 2 shot blocks

2nd hour: bottle of water with 2 scoops of cytomax

3rd hour: bottle of water with 2 shot blocks

4th hour: bottle of water with 1.5 scoops of Cytomax

5th hour : bottle of water with 2 shot blocks

6th hour: bottle of water with 1.5 scoops of cytomax

7th hour: bottle of water with 2 shot blocks

Total calories= 710

Nutrition summary:

Pre-plan! carry your calories on the ride (relying more on drinks than solid food)

Make sure to drink ONLY water if you are eating solid foods, we want to prevent bloating and digestion problems.

If you need a reminder, set a timer for every 15 minutes to remind you to gulp something or eat something.

Whew…..lots to think about….plus sunscreen, helmet, mirrror, lip balm, credit card, gloves, phone numbers of fellow riders.

Best move so far…I picked a green jersey….aren’t so many of those so our car support should find me easily if needed. Gotta go…up early….
