Bike boxing…

The Wine Country Century Countdown has begun, and will end with my first pedal strokebike-box at 6:30 on Saturday morning.

Then I’ll start counting the miles, ridden and yet to go. To relieve boredom I often calculate percentages, though with the Century that’s no challenge. Five miles=5% of the ride. But of course you knew that.

Have shared some detail about the training biz, but there’s also the matter of the bicycle. Do much of my training in Southern Cal. My back-up bike is in Marin, but for this challenge I want the GOOD bike. So….

I borrowed a bike box, which requires partial dis-assembly. After my last little 20 mile ride I’ll pop it over to The Bike Shop in Hermosa, get her checked out, a second water bottle cage added and put into the box. Have heard various horror stories about bike shipment, so trying to be super careful.

Early Friday the bike and I fly Southwest up to San Francisco. The bike’s fare is $50. Mine somewhat more. Then it’s off to Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito for reassembly, bike rack installation, and Jeff meet-up. Feels like the precision involved in for a rocket launch.

But take-off will be slower.
