So Ariel and I were working away on today’s crossword. Mondays are supposed to be easy.
Often I can do a Monday solo…maybe the odd empty square, but usually Mondays are a cinch. Makes me understand how some people can whip through a puzzle in a few minutes.
But today, wow. Ariel and I kept passing it back and forth.
A little disoriented what with the big drive and all, but have to keep reminding myself that today is Monday.
It is Monday, right?
I check at the iPhone, the calendar. Yes, it’s Monday.
Usually we do the Monday puzzle in pen, don’t pull the pencil out until Wednesday.
But today…Geez Louise. No can do. Clue: French writer’s apprehension by police?
Answer: SARTRESARREST
Seriously. The puzzle was filled with stuff like that. (Note that “Arrest” is an anagram of “Sartre”.) On a Monday! We got that one, but it took way too long. And a few boxes, we couldn’t get at all. Geez.
And then I did my follow-up, checking in on the Crossword blog. Checked out the answers, looked at the comments. Love that the comments in the crossword forum are way more coherent than forums anywhere else.
And GET THIS… Bernice Gordon, the woman who constructed this puzzle is 98 years old.
Wowza.
