I’ve got the perfect suggestion, especially for a girl:
A tool kit.
No one thinks of that and unlike many a graduation gift—the nice pen, even a gift card, which can get lost—tools will actually get used.
My friend Jill gave that as her standard gift to girls who were graduating. Jill gave tools to Jessamyn when she graduated, the only graduation gift Jessamyn actually uses. Jessamyn hammers, she drills, and especially, she assembles.
Every time I help Jessamyn move I’m impressed. While I’m trying to figure out space in the bathroom she has put together the kitchen cart and the desk, and dis-assembled the table—which wouldn’t really fit—And hung six shelves.
No need for those frou frou tools with the flowers on them….the regular ones work fine. Jessamyn’s favorite is the power screwdriver.
Only trouble is, people keep borrowing it from her.
Now tools have become my girl graduation gift of choice. For Trissie too. A useful gift, a surprising unexpected gift, and another way we remember Jill.
