Father’s Day #5

Daddy just loves zipping around Napa on his Vespa. For a while there he would ask how many miles I had on my odometer, so we could compare. And for the littlest while, we were in the same neighborhood, 300, 400, 600 miles…

But as with friendly conversation with strangers, scooter mileage is a tough place to compete with my father. You are simply not going to win.

You will also not win:

* sharing garden vegetables with friends and neighbors.

* doing good deeds for friends and family

* inventing your own recipes for dinner

* explaining math problems

* organizing trips and family get-togethers

* taking pictures of family and friends

* sharing pictures with family and friends

* planning adventures…I’ve been in 49 of the 50 states, mostly because of the incredible trips we took when I was a kid.

And now, in fact, Daddy is off on an adventure in Cuba…so he’s not reading this in a timely fashion. Before he left, though, he was careful to send out the yearly admonition against Father’s Day gifts. “Save your money for your family.”

I read the fine print, though, and he didn’t say anything about cards.

Got mine in the mail today.
